Biography
Dr. Susie Whittington
Dr. Susie Whittington has a passion for improving teaching
and learning. An associate professor in The Ohio State
University’s Department of Human and Community Resource
Development, she instructs students in the methods of
teaching agriculture, curriculum and program planning,
and senior field experiences. She also co-coordinates the
New Teacher Induction Program in partnership with the
Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Association for
Agricultural Educators, chairs the college honors committee,
and serves on the University Honors Advisory Council.
For 20 years, she has actively studied how to improve the
cognitive capacity of students by engaging professors in the
teaching and learning process. Her research was awarded
the Author of the Year Award from the American Association
for Agricultural Education and the E. B. Knight and Jack
Everly Outstanding Journal Article Awards from the North
American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture. Additionally,
she co-authored a widely adopted textbook for teaching
methods courses and is PI on a grant to establish an
Academy for Teaching and Learning Excellence at three state
universities in India.
Whittington received OSU’s Outstanding Student Organization
Advisor Award, the Josephine Sitterle Failer Award for
Outstanding Service to Students from the university’s Alumni
Association, her college’s Rodney F. Plimpton and Gamma
Sigma Delta teaching awards, and the Towers Faculty Award.
She is also one of 20 women selected into the President’s
and Provost’s Leadership Institute for Ohio State.
Dr. Whittington holds B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from The
Ohio State University.
