Biography

Joshua Millspaugh

 

A University of Missouri faculty member since 1999, Dr. Joshua Millspaugh serves as associate professor and director of graduate studies in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences. He teaches courses in wildlife research and management techniques, animal population dynamics,
and quantitative methods.


His active research program involves undergraduate and graduate students and focuses on movements, habitat choices, and stress physiology of wildlife, particularly large mammals such as elephants, bison, and elk. His research has been featured on the NBC Today Show, Animal Planet, and the History Channel, and in hundreds of newspapers, including the New York Times and USA Today. To date, he has published three books and more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and has co-presented approximately 20 interactive workshops about active learning strategies. He annually serves as academic advisor to 25 to 30
undergraduate students, a member on approximately 20 graduate student committees, and as director of the Thomas Baskett Wildlife Research and Education Center. He is also actively involved in outreach activities that serve state and federal natural resource agencies, such as the National Park Service.


Millspaugh received the Provost Outstanding Junior Faculty Teaching Award, the William T. Kemper Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching, the Outstanding Faculty Member Award from the School of Natural Resources Student Council, and numerous other teaching awards.

 

He earned a B.S. from the State University of New York at Syracuse, M.S. from South Dakota State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington.
